The NSS unit for the year 2012-2013 was inaugurated by Mrs.Varsha Jain. Mrs. Jain works with a nongovernmental agency related to “Mumbai2 to 7” and also directs documentary films. “Save the girl child” was the topic that was discussed to create awareness among the students and volunteers present. The unit conducted a “Blood Donation Camp” on 28th July, 2012, the occasion was graced by Dr.Amit Suryavanshi of J.J. Hospital and Premnath Shetty, Udayavani and Buntaravani. A whooping number of 152 students donated blood which has set an outstanding record as compared to the previous years. NSS volunteer Amit Ingle received first prize in the District Level Leadership Camp, Manori. On 31st August, The NSS unit celebrated 'Sadbhavan Diwas' paying a tribute to all the brave hearts who gave their life for the country. Col. Rakesh Handa and Capt. Swaminathan were the chief guests for this event. They spoke on 'Career options in Defence'. On 25th Sept, the students of NSS unit planted 100 saplings in Powai garden. On 4th November 2012, NSS volunteers participated in Pulse Polio programme for Powai. Our volunteers Sandeep Dubey is selected for StateRepublicDay Parade.

DLLE


Department Lifelong Learning and Extension

The Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension [DLLE] was established on October 12, in the Year 1978 and has been recognized as a statutory Department of the University of Mumbai since 1994 to promote a meaningful and sustained rapport between the Universities and the community. The DLLE offers flexible Continuing Education opportunities for the people. As a well-founded academic Department of the University of Mumbai, the Department is committed both to the highest standards of excellence, and to ensuring that the University's unparalleled academic strengths and resources made available to as many interested learners as possible so as to play a pivotal role in reaching basic education to the masses.

Keeping these views in mind the college has started the extension services with a group of 50 students. The main aim of the extension education is for the development of the people and for field outreach activities.

The DLLE unit of S. M Shetty College of Science Commerce and Management Studies was inaugurated on the 26th  of July,2014. Professor Rajashree Raut from R. Jhunjuhnwala College inaugurated the year’s  activities. The programme was attended by the volunteers of DLLE , teachers in charge and vice principal Dr. Liji Santosh who introduced the chief guest. The students put up a dance performance and a skit on women empowerment.

Ms. Krina and Mr. Chintan, former DLLE members spoke about their experiences in the past year.  The chief guest, Professor Rajshree Raut, addressed the gathering and guided them on the project work.  She also emphasized on the need and importance of DLLE for society.

The DLLE First Term Training Program for the Academic year 2014 – 2015 was held at Mumbai Vidyapeeth, Churchgate on 9th August 2014 in the College Auditorium. Dr. Dilip Patil along with the field co-ordinators conducted the training session  on various projects offered by the university of mumbai.  Around 100 teachers and students were present from more than 20 colleges of Mumbai .  The Extension Teacher-in-charge and the student managers attended the first term training session organised by DLLE.

The college arranged first  term training session in the college audio-visual room for the students registered with DLLE. The DLLE Project selected for this year is SWS (Status of Women in Society). Student managers (Pratibha Pasi and Virendra Bhakuni)  talked on the various issues that women are facing in society and also on the importance of doing a survey for this project which will help in uplifting the status of women in society. Prof. Rupali (DLLE Teacher in charge) also addressed the students and encouraged them to work wholeheartedly on this project.

 

The Street Play competition was organized by DLLE unit on 15th September’2014 on the play ground.  Around 3 skits were performed for this competition.  Well known TV artist Mr. Sanket (Javai vikat ghene aahe serial on Z Marathi) was the judge for this competition.  The various issue related to women in India were presented with amazing acting by students of degree college.

Field coordinator Prof. Sunita Kulkarni from Ambernath college visited to our college on 13th October’2014 and oriented our dlle managers and students about our selected projects.  She also gave us valuable suggestions for the future plans.

 



WDC



The Women Development Cell was inaugurated by the Asst. Police Inspector, Asha Korake on 21st July 2012. The chief guest discussed the topic “Crime Against Women” during the inauguration and motivated the students to take a strong stand against violence against women. “Every woman is precious and she has the right to be treated equally and must be ensured good safety”, she quoted. Ms. Korake gave brief information about different Acts related to Women Rights. During her interaction she provided an additional helpline number for those who wish to seek help andwant to express their grievances. She demonstrated few essential self-defense actions which every woman must know. Professor Liji Santosh also narrated a beautiful poem titled “For Some Stupid Flowers”. At the end of the event there was an interactive session where she answered many queries of the students regarding everyday problems womenconfront.
