WDC Poster Making Competition
WDC (Women’s’ Development Cell) organized a poster making competition in the college on the 12th of August, 2014. The purpose of the competition was to provide a platform to the students to express their views on the status of women in today’s world. Principal Dr. SridharaShetty inaugurated the competition which saw interesting views expressed through art.
Nature Club Trip
A visit to the butterfly garden, OWALEKAR WADI, was conducted by the nature club of the college as a part of their Environment Awareness programme, on 14 September, 2014The members of the photography club also joined this programme. The intentionwas to learn about the environment of butterflies and the need to conserve the environment to protect the various species of butterflies.Mr. IsaacKehimkar(BNHS) and Mr. Rajesh Owalekarbriefed the members of the club about the life of a butterfly and its various species.
Onam And Teacher's Day Celebration
The Student Council organized a function to celebrate Onam and to mark Teachers’ Day, on September 10, 2014.It was held to create awareness about the importance of the festivals like Onam especially to those students who do not belong to those communities and as a mark of respect to the teachers.During the celebration students & teachers across the college came in traditional Malayali Dress. Students performed traditional dance and conducteda host of fun activities for the teachers.
Dental Health Checkup Camp
A dental health check-up camp was organized by the students’ council The Health Club of SM Shetty Degree College,Powai on August 11, 2014.The event was held for basic oral check up of the students and the staff members and to bring awareness about oral problems, their possible reasons and how can they be fought.It was organised by Trillium Dental Center as a part of their CSR activities. Dr Thomas Koshy and Dr Judy Thomas along with their medical team conducted dental health check-up for more than 150 students and staff members. They also distributed mouth wash, tooth paste etc. to encourage the students adopt healthier practices.
Staff Academic Forum
The Staff Academic Forumorganiseda guest lecture by Prof. KavitaVenkatachari, I.B.S. Business School,on 11th September, 2014. Prof. Venkatachariguided teachers on websites that can be used for research purposes. She gave a list of more than 100 websites and explained their uses.The purpose of the event was to guide teachers in making use of various websites in conducting research.
Felicitation of teachers and a discussion on Involved Learning on Academic Excellence was organized by the Staff Academic Forum on 11th September, 2014. The purpose of the event was to discuss Involved Learning on Academic Excellence and felicitation of the teachers for getting 100% result in third year examinations held during the year 2013-14.A discussion was held on “Involved Learning on Academic Excellence” which was meaningfully concluded by Principal Dr.Sridhara Shetty. All teachers participated in the discussion and a healthy exchange of ideas took place.
Talent Hunt 2014-2015
Talent Hunt 2014 was organized on 26th and 27th of August, 2014.To grace this occasion we had Mr.Boman Irani, to grace this occasion.He announced the talent hunt open for the academic year 2014-15.Through his experiences he motivated the students to move forward in life.As this event is intra-collegiate events we had students participating in various events varying from Fine Arts to Special Events to Performing Arts.On Day one we had the events of Fine Arts – Sanskarbharti, Flower Jewellery,Nail Art,Caricature and Best out of the Waste along with Situational singing of Performimng Arts and Designing Wonders,Doodling and Rapping of Special Events.On Day Two the events of Performing Arts-Solo Dancing,Group Dance ,Mono Acting and Comedy Fest of Special Events were organized in the college auditorium.We had Stand up Comedian VIP to judge the event Comedy Fest on Day Two.Students actively participated in all the events and overall it was a great success.
Students Council 2014-15
Orientation, Oath-taking Ceremony, Drug Awareness Program and Personality Development Program
The Orientation of Student’s Council 2014-15 was organized on July 9, 2014.The Student’s Council members were briefed about the events that were held last year, the plans for this year and the process of selection of core committee. The event was presided over by the Chairman of the Student’s Council, Principal, Dr.Sridhara Shetty. Vice Principal Dr.Liji Santosh,spoke to motivate all the members of the newly formed council.
On August 1st 2014,the Oath Ceremony of the student’s Council took place in the Auditorium. Principal of the Degree College Dr.Sridhara Shetty administered the oath, to the newly formed Student’s Council.Mr. Jayaram Shetty, Chairman,Powai Education Committee, Mr. B.R. Shetty, Secretary, CA Harish Shetty, Treasurer,were the guests for the occasion. Principal of State Board School and Junior College, Ms. SeemaSablok and Principal International School and Junior College Ms. Leena Pimple were also present. Students of the college gave an enthralling performance.
The Drug-Awareness Program was held on June 26, 2014.The event was conducted by Mumbai Police to create awareness regarding Drug Abuse. Mr.SachinNamdev,Police Sub –Inspector was the speaker for the event.
A Personality Development Program was held on July 15, 2014. The event was conducted by Diya Foundation. Mr. Kalicharan Sharma of Diya Foundation addressed the students on the need for a positive outlook and to channelize energy and resources in the right direction.
IT Association- Inauguration
The IT Association of the B.Sc. IT section was inaugurated on 21ST August 2014. “Digital Minds” – Era of Technology, a programme for students’ paper presentation, was held to mark the occasion.Professor Rajendra Patil inaugurated the event in the presence of teachers and students of the department.
The IT association is meant to provide a platform to the students to express their ideas about technology and to show their understanding of classroom teaching along with exchange of ideas. In keeping with this aim, the inaugural function saw students from B.Sc. IT presenting papers on various topics like Cloud Computing,4G Technology and Android Application.
Department of Lifelong Learning & Extension Inauguration
The DLLE unit of S. M Shetty College of Science Commerce and Management Studies was inaugurated on the 26th of July,2014. Professor Rajashree Raut from R. Jhunjuhnwala College inaugurated the year’s activities.
The programme was attended by the volunteers of DLLE , teachers in charge and chief coordinator Dr. Liji Santosh who introduced the chief guest. The students put up a dance performance and a skit on women empowerment.
Ms. Krina and Mr. Chintan, former DLLE members spoke about their experiences in the past year.
The chief guest, Professor Rajshree Raut, addressed the gathering and guided them on the project work. She also emphasized on the need and importance of DLLE for society.
The inauguration function of “Economics Club” of S.M. Shetty College of Science, Commerce and Management Studies took place on 24th July,2014.The Guest for the day was eminent speaker Prof. Panikar – President of Economics Club, Mumbai. A budget analysis session for the year 2014-15 was held on the occasion. The speaker shared his knowledge on infrastructure development as the need of the hour in the current scenario. A quiz competition was held on that day to give students a chance to explore their knowledge.
The Management Association of the BMS section was inaugurated on 12th July, 2014.
"Brand Equity", a programme to enhance the research aptitude of the students, in the field of marketing related with different brands, was held to mark the occasion. Mr. Ashish Goel and Ms. Suvarna Goel inaugurated the event in the presence of teachers and students of the department.
The BMS association is meant to help the students to understand the practical knowledge of the corporate world. In keeping with this aim, the inaugural function saw students from BMS delivering presentations on various brands like Mc Donald's, Starbucks, Apple Inc..
Women Development Cell-Inauguration and Orientation
The orientation of Women Development Cell was held on 7th July, 2014. A group discussion on “Only men are responsible for harassment “as the subject, was conducted which saw an active participation from the students present. The work of Women Development Cell for the year 2013-14 was highlighted through a presentation. Later, the registration for the membership of Women Development Cell was undertaken.
The inauguration of Women Development Cell was held on 30th July,2014. A brief introduction regarding the aims and objectives of the Women Development Cell was presented which was followed by a dance and skit performance by the members of WDC themselves. Dr. Purendra Nath was the Chief Guest of the event. He spoke on Gender Equality and the role of women in today’s world.Ms.Shammy Gupta and Ms. Savli Mangle were also present. The Women Development cell is meant to prevent sexual harassment and to promote general well-being of female students, teaching and non-teaching women staff and organize seminars, workshops for creating general awareness and orientation of students, teachers, and non-teaching staff for their active and sustained participation in the activities of Cell.
The BMM department of S.M. Shetty College conducted ‘Debutantes Week ‘, for the FYBMM students. on 3rd, 4th and 5th July in the college auditorium. The primary purpose behind the debutants week facilitate a better understanding of the media industry for the first year students by inviting media industry experts, who shared their vital knowledge with the BMM students.
The chief guest for the Debutants Week on the first day was Mr. Pankaj Athawale, who is a young radio broadcaster and sports commentator and also runs the community radio programme of Mumbai Universtiy. Mr. Bharat Dabholkar, a prominent personality in the fields of advertising and theatre, was the chief guest on the second day of the Debutants Week and on the last day, a well known psychiatrist, Dr. Harish Shetty was the chief guest.
The whole BMM department was a part of the debutants week. The SY and TYBMM students played an important role in organizing the event and were vital in making the whole concept of 'Debutants Week' a success. The Debutants Week saw a great participation from the students' side. It was a highly interactive session as the students got their queries related to the media industry cleared from Mr. Pankaj Athawale and Mr. Bharat Dabholkar. On the last day, senior psychiatrist Dr. Harish Shetty interacted with the students and taught them how to face problems in life. On each day of the event there were fun sessions as the SY and TY students played fun games with the FY students, so that there is interaction amongst the students and they get a chance to know each other.
